Sunderland Real Estate
The name Brock came to fruition back in the earlier part of the 18th Century and was originally named in honor of Major General Sir Isaac Brock who was given free land for his outstanding service in the War of 1812. Brock Township did not become a municipality until 1974, when restructuring of Durham Region incorporated Thorah, Beaverton, and Cannington to complete the new municipality of Brock.
Brock is northeast of Toronto and sits on the east shore of Lake Simcoe. Within Brock’s borders, there are urbanized areas, hamlets and a rural countryside. The northern border opens up to the Trent-Severn Waterway that enters Lake Simcoe by Ramara Township. Brock is home to five locks and Thorah Island in Lake Simcoe. Brock possesses many communities within it including: Beaverton, Cannington, Ball Subdivision, Blackwater, Wilfrid, Cedar Beach, Wick, Derryville, Vroomanton, Creighton’s Corner, Thorah Beach, Gamebridge, Sunderland, Layton, Vallentyne, Maple Beach, Saginaw and Pinedale. Beaverton hosts the main body of the community and much of the commercial businesses.
